Water in South Australia

Have an SA Water expert talk to your group

Did you know before water gets to your tap it, goes through an extensive treatment process. Learn about water supply in South Australia, and its journey from catchment to tap. A key part of our business is the huge task of supplying 135 billion litres of water every year to metropolitan Adelaide alone. That's about 540,000,000,000 cups of water!

Learn where your water comes from, how it is treated and how we can protect this precious resource.

Sewage treatment

Every time you have a shower, flush the toilet or pull a plug out of a sink, you are using the sewerage network. More than 250 million litres of sewage arrives at one of Adelaide's treatment plants every day, with around 27 billion litres being recycled and reused.

We use this recycled water for irrigation and flushing your toilet.

Treating sewage is both complicated and expensive. It is also vital to the good health of the community and is an essential part of protecting our environment and our quality of life.

Learn how sewage is treated and recycled in South Australia – and how you can play your part.
